Welcome to Bedford Downtown in Bedford, OH

Weekend of the Pooka – A Celebration of the Arts

What do you get when you cross a garden gnome and one of Santa’s elves?  A POOKA! For you scholars of Irish folklore, a Pooka is a shape-shifting creature who can turn into animals at will.  If you are from Bedford however, Pooka’s are colorful little characters who appeared in many of Bedford artist, Richard Sedlon’s paintings.  Today, Bedford celebrates the work of Richard Sedlon with a weekend-long Celebration of the Arts the first full weekend of September.   At the Weekend of the Pooka’s, adults and children can participate in artistic activities like origami to hat making, pottery to drum playing.  Area artists display their unique wares for sale along with food and entertainment to round out the event.

The festivities begin on Friday where food is the art form in Under The Starts.  This “Event in the Tent” features  leading chefs and culinary programs creating their masterpieces under the stars from 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm. No tickets will be sold at the door so get your invite by calling (216) 469-7640!

Saturday and Sunday features the Art Show and Sale, Artisan Village Live Music, International Dance Performers, a Young Artists Alley and Student Art Mural and Imagination Village in the Sedlon Garden with Art Activities.
